The Skein

Working with handmade, hand-dyed yarn is precious.  As I ball each skein I imagine the sheep that were shed, the yarn that was spun from its wool, and the remarkable craft of dying the wool.  Each skein is unique, even when dyed with the same colours.  I have fallen madly in love with the exquisite fibers from Hand Maiden of Nova Scotia.  For this project I am using Flyss, its colour combination reflects The Owls and dessert of Santa Fe that this piece is inspired by. Being mindful of the origin of each weaving project and the inspiration amplifies the joy of the making of it.

As I reflect on the Tapestry of Life at this stage, I am reminded of how grounding it is to remember where I came from, my ancestry, and all of the experiences and wisdom that preceded me and live on through me. It also has me wondering on how many lives I lived before this.  What might I discover and how might I grow in the knowing of things before me? The struggles and triumphs that were in the making and shaping of me.
